Philosophy

Storytelling inspires people and organizations.

Ancient Man does not simply provide manga production services. We offer a one-year project in which employees voluntarily share and promote their company’s appeal. The monthly fee covers the operational costs of this project. CEO Matsuyama, as the project’s creator, designs the overall framework; a volunteer from your company serves as the leader; and the president oversees the project in line with the company’s management philosophy.Manga, characters, and short animations serve as tools to spread the appeal of your company—and by extension, the appeal of your city and Japan—to the world.

CEO Matsuyama, the project’s creator, designs the entire initiative
The leader is an employee from your company who volunteers for the role
The President oversees the project in accordance with the company’s management philosophy
Why Manga?

Why are people of different cultures, nationalities, and backgrounds so captivated by manga?

Because Japanese stories resonate with the universal sensibilities of humanity.

This answer is not mere speculation. In France, despite the Japanese side having made absolutely no effort to promote manga, the public has continued to choose manga on its own, overcoming political restrictions and fierce criticism.CEO Matsuyama researched this process at Kobe University’s Graduate School through the theory of cultural acculturation—the theory of how foreign cultures are reinterpreted and become established after encountering resistance—and contributed to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s White Paper on Digital Content (France Edition) for three consecutive years. The same applies to a company’s appeal. It does not spread through coercion or uniformity. When employees begin to speak out of their own free will, that appeal transforms the organization and spreads across national borders.

Our Projects

Three Projects

Recruitment Manga Project

Young people who resonate with the company’s story will apply on their own initiative.

Trade Show Manga Project

Through characters and storytelling, our booth becomes a place for interaction.

International Manga Project

We’ve exhibited at JAPAN EXPO 11 times. Its appeal transcends national borders.

Essence

The essence at the heart of our three businesses.

Recruitment
The more small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) try to compete with large corporations on terms like salary and holidays, the more they get lost in the crowd, and the less they can convey what it’s really like to work there. That’s why we focus squarely on motivational factors—not just compensation—but the stories of what it’s like to work at each company.
Trade Shows
If a booth doesn’t catch the eye within three seconds, visitors will walk right past it, and most of the business cards exchanged will lead to no further connection. That’s why we use character and storytelling to make people stop in their tracks and sustain the excitement of the event long after it’s over.
International
Relying solely on a domestic market with a shrinking population leaves small and medium-sized enterprises with an increasingly narrow future. That’s why we showcase the appeal of Japan—as sought by the world—not only from major cities but also from regional areas.

Message

Message from the Representative

After researching the state of Japanese manga in France at Kobe University Graduate School, I founded Ancien Manga in 2006. For the past 20 years, I have connected Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises with France, Thailand, and Algeria, with manga culture at the core.Whether facilitating networking events, independently organizing the Osaka International Manga Grand Prix, or collaborating with government agencies—though the forms may differ, I have consistently upheld one principle: When guided, people take initiative on their own. I cherish this conviction, embodied in the Japanese word “izana,” which means “to guide.”I have witnessed countless moments where, in the process of turning a company’s appeal into a narrative, the organization changes spontaneously, giving rise to developments that surpass even the CEO’s imagination. That appeal then spreads from within the company out into the world. As we mark our 20th anniversary, we will deliver this power to as many companies as possible and move toward a future where companies and nations captivate one another.
